By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person β€” spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School Matraville, we nurture our students to become curious, capable and connected learners with high expectations of themselves. Our students are encouraged to take risks and understand how they learn best in order to reach their full potential. To guide students in achieving their personal goals, we believe it is essential to nurture their social and emotional wellbeing.

We respect the dignity of the learner and strive to empower our students with the skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world. We provide authentic opportunities for students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society on a global level.Β

Our students are encouraged to explore their curiosities, connect and collaborate to solve problems and think critically. Students are provided with opportunities to draw on their strengths, as they exercise choice to pursue their own passions and interests.

Brain Breaks
After each hour of learning, 10 minute β€˜brain breaks’ are incorporated into the day to improve brain activity, engagement, focus and attentiveness.

The Third Teacher
At Sacred Heart, we have a third teacher allocated to each grade to help stream learning or provide further intervention or extension.
