Our school provides opportunities for students, staff and parents to know and celebrate their Catholic faith. This is done through the religious life of our school. Members of our community experience a rich liturgical and prayer life, celebration of the Sacraments, faith formation, social outreach activities, and opportunities to share faith with each other and with youth from other schools in the Archdiocese.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School Matraville we affirm and support parents in the faith education of their children. We aim to provide a systematic and structured Religious Education program which helps students learn to know and understand their faith tradition. We seek to sponsor growth in our students’ faith through this program and to develop the school as a community of faith. We acknowledge the importance of the role of the priests in our parish and work in close co-operation with them.

Students attend whole school celebrations approximately three to four times a term, which include a weekly parish Mass, feast day Masses, and our well attended Grandparent’s Day Mass. Each class also takes turn to lead our school community in prayer on a regular basis.

Our senior student leaders attend annual faith formation days for Mini Vinnies, as well as Connect Faith, and as a pilot school, our Year Six students have engaged with the Pope Francis Award Program of school and parish community service since 2017.
